CRIME MOB vs THE SHINS

WE GOT FIVE ON IT: We started this website five years ago today, posting STV SLV's "Rock Yo Sea Legs," a mix of Crime Mob's "Rock Yo Hips" and "Sea Legs" by The Shins (from 2007's Wincing The Night Away). This recent Pitchfork review of the Shins' new Port Of Morrow LP best sums up what has happened in the world during these last five years:
"Lost ended. The United States elected an African-American president. The global financial system more or less keeled over. The U.S. stopped sending people into space and "got" Osama Bin Laden, both in the same year. Harry Potter peaced out-- twice. Zach Braff's career shit the bed. Trent Reznor won an Oscar, finally. The Promise Ring returned. Oasis, Ministry, Spice Girls-- called it quits, all of 'em. Steve Jobs died, and so did Ronnie James Dio. Pop music headed out to the club, mainstream hip-hop more or less went bust, people started buying KFC’s Double Down (and, to a lesser extent, Wendy’s Baconator), and "indie" culture traded its guitars for turntables (or, at the very least, pirated audio software and synthesizers that didn't take up too much space in the bedroom)." —Gary Fitzmaurice
We assume the Shins putting out their first album in five years so close to our fifth birthday is not a coincidence. Celebrate with us with a new pairing of Crime Mob and The Shins. Next year we'll bring cake.

THIS WEEKEND: Thursday 3/29 in Vancouver at Republic. Friday 3/30 in Bellingham WA at Glow. Saturday 3/31 in Chicago at Empty Bottle with our homie ShowYouSuck and more. It's a benefit show, more details here.
